Wheelchair Fencing

Wheelchair Fencing by Montreal Photojournalist Allen McEachern

In the early days of my career I was working to become an established photojournalists. Sports. sports, and more sports. I was invited to photograph a Defi Sportif event in Montreal. Prior to attending I was unaware of the sport of wheelchair fencing. Basically, the two combatants are seated in their respective wheelchairs which are then clipped into a track that hold them in place. All of the moves the athletes make are pretty much upper body. I was captivated by the speed and ferocity of the bouts. I found the frame you see above. and early and longstanding favourite of my sports photography portfolio.

Sir Richard Branson

Sir Richard Branson was one of a wealth of speakers attending C2 Montreal in 2013. Being in the room, C2 as my client. This is why photographers know so much!

Caribou, Newfoundland and Labrador

Caribou of Newfoundland and Labrador

This image was created along The Northern Traverse (formerly the North Rim) in Gros Morne National Park, Newfoundland and Labrador. The Northern Traverse is a mountain plateau around the Western Brook Pond fjord. The area is home to a Woodland Caribou herd. A species at threat throughout most of Canada, endangered in some regions.

LAURENTIAN LANSCAPE

I created this image while working with La Ville de Labelle, Quebec. They required some strong images showcasing the historic and rugged beauty of the Rouge River Valley. LAURENTIAN LANDSCAPE is part of my ongoing archive documenting the Laurentian Mountains of Quebec.

MONTREAL AERIAL PHOTOGRAPHY

I had the pleasure of helicopter flight yesterday over Montreal. The mandate was to created a series of images showing the project development stages of various publicly funded infrastructure sites. Respecting my client, I offer you instead a few of my out takes from the flight. (Out-takes: images I create for my own interests)

C2 Montreal [RE] Imagined in a Covid World

C2 Montreal 2021 wrapped yesterday at Tohu. I was happy to be back with the C2 team and working alongside so many creative collaborators. After the loss of C2, 2020, due to Covid, I was curious to see how the event would unfold this year. C2 Montreal ran their iconic event on a smaller, [RE] imagined scale. This allowed them to test out their new "hybrid" event format, which combines both live in person with remote via screen participations. One conference I photographed just had three screens with people all interacting in conversation. It was bizarre but still delivered lively content. Many attendees participated on-line as well due to restricted in person places. All said, it was different, but still worked. Here are some of my favourite images from the three days.

Mackenzie Tour - PGA Tour Canada - Final Two Rounds

Over the past weekend, I photographed the PGA Tour Canada stop in Montreal, the Mackenzie Investments Open at Elm Ridge Country Club. Hired directly by the PGA for the second consecutive year, my contract was to document the play of as many players as possible over the two final rounds, and then pick up and follow the leaders into the final holes. Taylor Pendrith, from Richmond Hill, Ontario, won the Open with a tour record final score of 28 under par over 4 days. Below are some of my favourite images from the competition as well as a link to the PGA Tour Canada website.

MacKenzie Tour - PGA Canada - Final Round

Yesterday I had the privilege of being the official photographer for the MacKenzie Tour - PGA Canada Tour stop in Montreal. The five day event was held at Elm Ridge Country Club on L'Île-Bizard, in Montreal. The title was taken by Blake Olsen after a deciding playoff with fellow American Corey Pereira. Here are a few of my favourite images from the day.

SHAMBHALA MUSIC FESTIVAL 2018

By Allen McEachern

Since August 2016, I have had the privilege of being the Shambhala Music Festival Medical photographer. My role is to document the work of the 150 person volunteer medical team as they work to keep festival goers health, happy, and sometime, alive. Here is a collection of my favourite images from Shambhala 2018. Please feel free to leave your comments. SHAMBHALA 2017

By Allen McEachern

I have just returned from Salmo, BC and the 20th edition of the Shambhala Music Festival. My contract is to document the work of the 130 person volunteer medical team. A team made up of paramedics, doctors, nurses, psychiatrists, and advanced first responders. Aside from offering basic first aid, the medical team operates a full capacity emergency room complete with an ICU. The worse cases attended by the medical staff are often from mixing heavy drug use, or overdosing. I think to understand the work of the medical team, you need to understand the environment that is Shambhala. Hopefully these select images help.

Photo Content for Small Business Marketing

By Allen McEachern.

Content is king and it is everywhere. Content marketing is essential for small business to be found in today's digital market place. Our clients, new, existing, and potential, all interact with content across a multitude of platforms - Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Pinterest, our websites, blog posts, search engines, and the list goes on... Adding strong visual content to our marking mix can dramatically enhance the chances of being found by clients, and more importantly remembered; or even better, having our content shared.

Small business owners can use photography to their benefit. Here is a great example. Haricot Traiteur in Montreal has hired me a few times now to create content for their marketing. In one day we created multiple images that were used throughout a six month period - Facebook posts, portfolio updates, email marketing etc.

One day of photography = six months of content. Do you want to learn more about how photography can help your business be found, be remembered? Contact me to find out how I can help you. Follow me on Instagram to see how I am helping small businesses become discoverable.

Canada's 100 Best Restaurants - Photos By Allen McEachern

By Allen McEachern.

During the dark winter days of January I was engaged by Canada's 100 Best Restaurants Magazine to complete an assignment to cover restaurants in Montreal and area for inclusion in this year's publication. My mandate was to create a mix of editorial style images of food, dinning room interiors, and portraits. I had the great pleasure of meeting and working with some of the most front facing culinary professionals in Montreal. The final ranking results are in, the winners announced, and my photos are live and published. Here are a few of my favourite shots and links to their position on Canada's 100 Best Restaurants.

SHAMBHALA - A 5 DAY PARTY

By Allen McEachern

I recently returned from a week in Salmo, British Columbia where I was documenting the work of the 130+ person volunteer Medical team at Shambhala. Shambhala is a 5 day (and night) outdoor electronic music festival that attracts an international crowd. Over 15 000 people attend, and a small city takes shape. Drugs are prevalent, no alcohol is allowed. Harm reduction, and drug education associate freely in a way that rarely is seen, perhaps unique to Canada. Six different stages keep non-stop musical line-ups rolling from 1PM- 6AM daily. There really is nothing like Shambhala. I can't wait to go back. Here are my Shambhala photos. Leave A Branded Item Behind

By Allen McEachern.

Photography is a very competitive business with many great photographers all going after the same clients. Often, the contracts go to the photographers whom not only know how to shoot, but who also know how to stand out and get noticed. A simple way to be remembered is to leave the client with something that contains your branding. One item that I currently use is a branded pen / USB combination. My supplier is USB Memory Direct. I like the pen / USB combo because it is a useful item that won't just be trashed at the end of the day. I use these to deliver back up images, small sample portfolios, bio info, etc..... Getting noticed is the start, being remembered is the road to being hired when the right job comes along. Leave something behind.
